Product description: DRV8256E - single channel motor driver 48 V / 1,9 A - Pololu 4038

A small, single-channel DC motor driver. The DRV8256E module developed by Pololu is powered from 4.5 V to 48 V. Continuous current per channel is 1.9 A (momentary up to 6.4 A for 1 second). It allows simple control of speed and direction of motor rotation, using only two microcontroller pins. The controller is also equipped with protection against reverse polarity, too low voltage, too high current and too high temperature.

Supply motor voltage from 4.5 V to 48 V to the VIN pin. In a typical application, it is sufficient to connect two control lines: PHASE direction selection and PWM speed control to the ENABLE pin. Both lines are internally pulled up to ground through a resistor. SLEEP pin allows to switch the chip into low power mode. A low state must be specified to enter sleep mode.

Outputs of the DRV8256E controller Pin Default state Description VIN Input voltage from 4.5 V to 48 V. GND System ground for the motor and logic. VM Pin giving access to the motor power supply after the MOSFET reverse voltage protection. It can be used to power other elements of the system with reverse polarity protection. OUT1 Motor 1 output. OUT2 Motor 2 output. EN LOW Activates the input for output activation / motor speed control. A high state causes the motor to run. Controlled by PWM. PH LOW Phase input to control the direction of rotation of the motor. FAULT FLOATING Open-drain, fault output activated by a low state. Pin goes low when current or voltage is exceeded. Must be pulled up with a resistor to default to the high state. SLEEP LOW The SLEEP input causes the controller to go into a low power state when the low state is applied. This pin can also be toggled to clear a locked overcurrent or overtemperature fault. VREF Current limiting threshold reference voltage.
