Hang on a minute.

Are you sure that there was water in this place? Didn´t the faraway lands of dragons stretch out? Put yourself in the shoes of famous medieval cartographers and complete a unique map! Halfway between a puzzle and a board game, terra mare challenges us to get the highest score by placing hexagonal tiles that create a map with land sections and other sea sections, full of miniatures and details.

Designed and illustrated by jon-Paul jacques, this title allows games for 2, 3 or 4 players, ages 14 and up, lasting about 40 minutes.

If you are lazy to read manuals.

With terra mare you won´t have any problem! There is only one very basic, common sense rule to remember:

always place the tiles so that they match those that have been previously played.

However, if you want to score more points than your rivals and win, each turn you will have to think carefully about how and where you place these tiles to get the most out of them.

On terra mare, players will score for the groups of land or sea tiles they manage to form (or for mountain ranges and coral, in 3-player games).

Players each play 2 double-sided hexagonal tiles, containing a mix of land and sea shapes.

Taking turns, they will place the tiles to create a map together.

The land player (or the land team, in 4-player games) will try to complete land zones, while the sea player (or the sea team, in 4-player games) will place the tiles trying to close off sea zones.

Completed zones award one point per tile, and some tiles award extra bonus points to whoever completes the zone they are in.

The game ends when the last tile has been placed, so you must make sure you have scored many points before the reserve runs out.

On their turn, each player must choose one of the sides of the tile to place and then must fit it into the play area, adjacent to another tile, so that all connected sides coincide:

land edges with land edges and sea edges with sea edges.

There will usually be several places to put the tile, so the challenge is to find the most promising place to score points.

Additionally, some tiles allow players to put their second tile into play, or to steal a tile from another player.

Once the basic mode of the game has been mastered, terra mare offers an advanced mode, in which new scoring options are added.

On the map there will be landmarks, caravans, ships and mountain ranges and coral that will award points based on their placement and distribution.

You can adjust the game mode according to the experience of the game group or depending on whether you want to face a more or less complicated challenge.

With a main mechanic based on the placement of tiles, which little by little form a unique map in the center of the table in each game, terra mare will captivate lovers of games like carcassonne.

However, its modern, careful and detailed design and the particularity of its hexagonal tiles give it its own personality.

The ease of its rules, the possibility of adjusting the difficulty of each game and the strategic depth of each choice, make terra mare an ideal title for more casual fans who wish to delve into the world of board games.
